How to Set Up IPTV on Smart TV: Samsung, LG & Sony Guide
Install and configure IPTV on Samsung, LG, and Sony Smart TVs. Step-by-step instructions for each brand with recommended apps.
Before You Start
Check that your Smart TV is connected to Wi-Fi (or ethernet) and can open its app store. You will also need your IPTV credentials: a server URL, username, and password, or an M3U playlist link.
If your TV is older than about 2016, it may not support modern IPTV apps. In that case, connect an Amazon Firestick or Android TV box and follow the Firestick setup guide instead. For other device types, the universal setup guide covers them.
Why Smart TV Setup Differs by Brand
Smart TVs do not share one operating system. Each brand ships its own platform with its own app store, and an app has to be built separately for each one:
This is why an app you see recommended online may simply not exist for your TV. The app has to be published for your platform and for your TV's model year and region. Android TV and Google TV are the most flexible because they use the Google Play Store, which has the widest choice of IPTV players.
Samsung Smart TV (Tizen OS)
Samsung TVs from 2017 onward run Tizen and can use IPTV apps directly.
Option 1: IPTV Smarters
Option 2: Smart IPTV (SIPTV)
Smart IPTV is trial-based and requires a one-time activation after the trial ends.
LG Smart TV (webOS)
LG TVs from 2014 onward run webOS, though app availability depends on the webOS version.
Option 1: IPTV Smarters
Option 2: Smart IPTV
Option 3: SS IPTV
Sony Smart TV (Android TV / Google TV)
Sony TVs run Android TV, or Google TV on newer models, which gives you access to the Google Play Store.
Setup on Android TV is nearly identical to any Android device. TiviMate is a popular choice if you want an advanced guide and picture-in-picture, though some of its features are paid.
TCL, Hisense, and Other Android TVs
If your TV runs Android TV or Google TV (TCL, Hisense, Xiaomi, Philips and others), follow the Sony steps and install from the Google Play Store.
If your TV uses a proprietary OS, such as some Hisense or Vizio models, you may not find IPTV apps in the built-in store. Connect a Firestick or Chromecast with Google TV for full IPTV support.
How Playlist Linking Works (MAC Address Method)
Several TV-brand apps cannot show an on-screen keyboard that is comfortable for long URLs, so they use a linking method. The app shows the TV's MAC address, a unique hardware identifier for its network connection. You then visit a website on your phone or computer, enter that address plus your playlist URL, and the site stores the pairing. When the TV app restarts, it asks the site for the playlist registered to its address.
Two practical consequences follow. First, if the TV's address changes (for example after a network adapter swap), you must register again. Second, the playlist is stored by a third party, so use only the official site of the app. Some of these apps also support the playlist being updated later without touching the TV, which is handy when your provider changes a link.

Common Issues
App not available in my TV's store
Your model may be too old or region-restricted. Use a Firestick or Android box instead.
App crashes on launch
Clear the app cache if your TV allows it (look under Settings > Apps). If that does not help, uninstall and reinstall the app, then restart the TV.
No sound or audio delay
Check the TV's audio output settings. Try switching from Auto to PCM. If you use a soundbar through HDMI ARC, try an optical connection instead.
Channels load but picture freezes
This usually points to bandwidth or Wi-Fi quality, not the TV. Try ethernet and see how to fix IPTV buffering.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can every Smart TV run IPTV apps?
No. It depends on the TV platform, model year, and region. Samsung, LG, and Android TV models often have options, while older or proprietary models may not.
Is a stick better than the TV's built-in app?
Often, yes. Streaming sticks and Android boxes usually have more memory and receive more app options, which helps with big channel lists. A built-in app is simpler if it works well for you.
Can I use one subscription on my TV and phone at once?
That depends on your plan's simultaneous connections. See multi-device viewing for how this works.
Is it legal to watch IPTV on a Smart TV?
Availability and legality of content depends on your country and the licences held by the provider.
